Where the Red Fern Grows happens to be among the top ten books I have ever read … btw I was an adult when I read it! I then insisted that all three of my children read it, too. I do hope they've passed it to their own children. Have you read it? Be sure to have a box of tissues handy... I'm very serious about that!
I was so happy to see this favorite, about a boy, his dogs, father/son relationships, sacrifice, and loss, is the chosen book at The Library Challenge #50.
I've had this book cover printed out, on my desk for 10 days. A gift received yesterday from a very dear friend really put the finishing touch to my design - literally! Meet my card...
I so wanted to create the look of dusk. My silhouetted
reeds, and brush were used in lieu of dogs - which I totally would have used if I'd had any!!
These inks, and the old fashioned TH
blending tool/sponges, made it happen.
Hope Marina, and DJ like it - thanks DJ for choosing a favorite for all time!
SSS You are Loved die - thanks Coni! xoxo

btw I checked … there is a Kindle version!
How beautiful. I haven't heard of that challenge before so I'll be sure to add it to my feedly!
Voila! You are a master at blending, shading and silhouetting!! Beautiful!
That's a new-to-me challenge as well! I LOVE your card with that beautiful ink blending and silhouettes! Just perfect, Michele!
I have not read the book but it's one of my oldest daughter's favorite books! I love where the inspiration took you as your card is just BEAUTIFUL Michele...the blending is perfection!! :0)
No dogs needed Michele, this is perfect just the way it is!
This is truly amazing.....beautifully done! Your library challenge cards are always fabulous!
This is fantastic!! Awesome background you created here!! Thanks for playing along with us at the Library challenge.
By the way.....I love your blog name!! Super creative!! --DJ
It sounds like I need to read this book, I have a kindle now which I got for Christmas and am starting to 'collect' books to read and then for the 2 minutes that I am awake when I hit the bed I am enjoying it lol. Your card is the perfect take for this design and that sentiment is TDF! Awesome font and the blended layer is fab too!
Oh, I may have to read that book, too. You made me be intetested in it, Michele. BTW, such a beautiful card !
really gorgeous card...love you ink blending.
As you know, I ADORE your card! I'm going against popular opinion though on the book. I know it's a favorite of many so I read it about four years ago. I felt so bad for the raccoons that I just couldn't embrace the book.
Oh my goodness! This is gorgeous, Michele. You nailed the look of dusk and the whole feel of the book on a card. You are amazing! Wow!!
A beautiful background for this sweet sentiment!
fabulous take on the cover, gorgeous ink blending Michele.
For such a soulful book this accolade seems cheap but I say, winner, winner, chicken dinner, anyway. Your ink blending captures this book jacket perfectly. And the leaves and brush add just the right amount of interest.
Yes, I too, handed this book onto my four girls and we all ended up with soggy tissues surrounding us, as have all my grandchildren.
Absolutely GORGEOUS take on the book cover, Michele! I love that you chose the reeds and brush for your silhouettes and your die cut sentiment is just PERFECT! You nailed it, my friend...you really did!!!
I have not read this book but I vaguely have a memory of a movie by this name. Possibly it was the same.
Incredible job with this scene Michele!
You captured that cover perfectly, Michele.
Well this was the ink blending effect I was going for when I made my first card, but mine turned out wishy washy and yours is stunning! Great card. Thanks for joining The Library
Oh Yeah! You rocked it girl!! Brilliant card!
Beautiful blending, and the silhouettes are stunning -- great look of the book cover!
Absolutely gorgeous ink blended background with the black silhouettes and the white spatters, Michele! And I love the off-set layered die-cut sentiment!
I love the glow you created in that wonderfully blended background, Michele ... just the perfect spot for that deliciously crisp, graphic sentiment! Hugs, Anita :)
What a beautiful take on the cover scene
This is SO gorgeous, I love the colors you chose to blend the sky!
