Distress inks for water coloring?

Hello again, my friends!  I've been using my Distress ink pads for years to watercolor - have you, too?  They never seem to go dry because I don't use them for stamping.  But after watching Jill Foster use those Distress re-inkers for painting all of those gorgeous Penny Black images, I decided I needed to put a little research of my own into it!  Ranger had a 20% off coupon for first time buyers so I quickly put a dozen in my cart...

I found an empty watercolor pan palette from Altenew in my stash
and added a small drop of each color to its little wells.

Then I SWATCHED! Yes, Therese, I swatched those inks!  I'm so glad
I did - the inks truly are so deeply pigmented it completely shed light on Jill's watercolor methods!

Since I neglected to add any greens to my cart, Forest Moss and Peeled Paint
were smooshed onto a surface for those leaves.

BTW I think I've come to
the very last item I purchased during the Christmas sales!  This
Pinkfresh Studio Poinsettia Frame had been calling my name!
[Marcia - I also got the stencils and have already stamped
a few for our playdate next week!]

I took my own sweet time painting and experimenting with color mixes and can quickly see adding a few more re-inker colors to my stash as those pads get dry!  Ready for the reveal?

It truly is going to take some time getting accustomed to the intensity of these inks,
and how to move them on my Canson watercolor paper.  But for my first
outing I'm very happy with the results.

I'd love to know if you watched the release of the Penny Black Kit Starter video that released today.  You KNOW those tulips are on their way soon!

No one would ever guess this was your first trip around the barn painting with these re-inkers. This is beautiful, Michele! I love the colors you've used and that frame is a beauty.

I haven't watched the video, but when I saw the tulips I thought of you! You are on a roll with Penny Black and your watercolouring. It is simply brilliant. I can see you getting better and better at it xx

Stunning Stunning Stunning! Look at you go with your watercolouring and SWATCHING, I'm impressed, and yes you are right the Distress Inks are a perfect option for watercolouring and that is where I started, they are very forgiving. The refills are way more intense and adding them to the palette is genius as now you can keep coming back and reactivating the colour without wasting anything.
And I can't see exactly which colours you bought but it looks like you can mix one of your yellows (or yellow orange) with blue to make your own green. Hugs x

Beautiful! I too have been tempted to buy the re-inkers but have failed to do so. However I did find those tulips flew right into my basket (blush). Great card, Michele, and can't wait to see many more

I had no doubt that you would get re-inkers at some point, Michele. Your watercoloring to date has been fantastic so once the learning curve is over I suspect we may see even more amazing cards. You know I saw that kit from PB and I'm still debating on it. I don't do much watercoloring except with Zigs but I think I need to do more with DIs.

A gorgeous card with fantastic colouring of the lovely flowers. I also colour with the refill distress ink, I have been doing for years.

WOW! You have been busy creating, my friend! What an awesome die and so beautifully colored. I love the popped up frame that shows off the sweet sentiment so beautifully! I hope that kit is still available when I can order again. I thought of you when I saw those tulips so I'm not a bit surprised that they are on their way to you.

Well, I learned a lot here. I have every reinker for every PTI ink. I wonder how they would work... I have many Distress Oxide reinkers and zero regular Distress reinkers... looks like I have some experimenting to do too. It is true that your watercoloring is evolving beautifully. The poinsettia frame is so gorgeous all by itself, and your coloring breathes so much life into it. Beautifully done, my friend.

What beautiful results watercoloring with your reinkers Michele! I have a drawer full as I always used to buy the reinker when I bought the ink pad! Wonderful colors on your florals! Julia

I've long admired Jill's use of Distress reinkers which is pure genius, IMHO. And look at you--swatching them and making it look SO effortless! Looking forward to seeing many more projects and possibly tutorials???
