CAS[E] this Sketch #145

Leigh Penner is our sketch artist this week and it is a fun one - so many places this sketch could take us!

I did a fun repeat-stamping with a simple Big YOU from SSS, and used a Stitched with Love die set from MFT to create my card.

Did any of your mom's sew for you?  My mom made nearly every one of my dresses when I was a child. - you may not think that's so special until I tell you I'm youngest of nine - and she sewed for all six of her daughters!

Mom also was a button collector - seriously had thousands of buttons in every sized jar in her sewing room.  [Some of us could relate, right?] and hundreds of those cute little cards with buttons sewn on, or stapled, as I've done...

... for CTS #145:

Inside: "SEW love you!"

Thanks, Leigh, for bringing a wonderful memory of my Mom to my mind this week!

Will the sketch bring some wonderful memory to your mind this week?  We always look forward to witnessing the journey our sketch takes each of you on - see you in the gallery!

Yep my Mum was a dress maker by profession and everything we had was handmade although I didn't appreciate it then. Love the colours here, dimension and sweet little buttons X

Oh, I love this! And yes, my Grandma and my Mama sewed and I sewed too! Now I just sew cards--by hand!

Adorable card! Yes, I can relate to the buttons... My mom did not sew for me, only mended so I became the mom who sewed all Birthday and holiday outfits for all 3 of my girls-lol. Now, my youngest designs her own costumes, sews for herself and others!

Such a beautiful fresh colour combo, Michele. Love you Mom story. Mine did not sew, but I did for a few years as a young adult, made some summer frocks for myself! I also sewed frocks for Caitlin when she was a toddler and did a little quilting then, too! Still have that same Singer machine :)

awwww...love it when you share stories! My mom used to sew me dresses and I remember she even made a mini one for one of my (faux) barbies....I wish I could sew!

What a brilliant take on the sketch, Michele!!! And I so enjoyed your story of your MUM sewing for 6 daughters - WOW - I love to sew, too, and when the boys were still young, I used to do a lot of sewing for them - the sweetest little sets of shorts and matching shirts and I've sewn all their PJ's and tracksuits!!! Lately I've sewn lovely sweaters for them, but with the cost of fabric these days, it's cheaper to buy stuff at the shops (and it's much easier!!!) And my mum also used to have button tins - we loved to play with it!!!
Your card is so lovely - love the thread and how you've stapled the bottom buttons - very creative and so cute!!!
Have a wonderful Friday!!!

Beautiful card Michele, my sweet grandma, ON MY MOTHER'S SIDE, was the one who sew for us kids, she also taught me how to do it and how to knit and crochet. When my girls were little, I made them lots of cute little dresses and Halloween outfits and, when I became a grandma, I knitted or crochet a blanket to each of my 5 grandchildren, they still have them and that is just precious for me.
Thank you for sharing the sweet story about how your mom sew for you and your sisters.
I have a question.....Is that a real needle or is it a die? it looks amazing with the thread looped around like that and through the buttons!!!!!

This is just darling, Michele. Between my mother and me, we could stock our own button store. By now, some of them may be antiques. ;)

Sweet story, Michele. My Mom didn't sew, but she embroidered beautifully... I sew, but not as much as your Mother, and also have a crush for buttons, especially if they are old. Your card is just a CAS beauty and a lovely tribute to your Mom.

Sweet card, Michele ... what delicious detailing! Yep, we too all had hand made clothes ... I thought it was brilliant ... dresses specially made for me! I shared my Mum's love of sewing from very very young and sewed anything and everything for years ... happy days ... thanks for the memory jog! Hugs to you, mon amie, Anita :)

Love your card, and so many memories! My Mum did all our sewing too. I'll never be as good as her, but I'm so glad she taught me how to sew, and cook, and all the other stuff that seems to be kinda trendy right now but was the only option for us growing up LOL my kids would have fits if I sewed them all matching outfits!

When my grandma passed away, I inherited her tin of old buttons... I remember as a kid playing with my mom's button jar, too.
Your card is adorable, Michele! I love your super sweet take on the sketch!

Ahhh...you've stirred memories of the button jar that my grandmother used to have, and those my mom still has! I don't use buttons on my cards (inept in doing so...), but when I visit my mom, the jar inevitably comes out, because I often need one sewn on something (needles, thread and I do not work well together, unless cross-stitching is involved). Your YOU card: only fantastically wonderful!
