Playing Cards with Friends - September 2023

I'm Playing Cards with my friend Richard Breaks today!!  You may know him as Mr. Cardmaker?  Or @rlbreaks on Instagram.  A card maker by any other name has nothing on this guy - what a fun, and fantastic designer he is!

As thrilled as I am that you are back in The Mitten I DO know how unsettling a long-distance move can be, I'm gonna go easy on you!  Here is our assignment:

Use a background stamp to create a emboss/resist panel then create a card [or two] from it!  EASY PEASY, right?  Too easy?

Make it a Christmas card! and include a sentiment on vellum!

I recently won a wonderful SSS Quilted background stamp on Instagram from Miriam Prantner - thanks again, Miriam!   I stamped, and white heat embossed the image onto a 6x6" piece of watercolor card stock.  Then went in search of a few inks and found some that would mix into each other with a little drama... I think I found the right ones...

I use a little sheet of acetate to add water-y puddles of ink to my embossed
panel - it makes it easier to put the color where you want it!

From this panel, I was able to get two usable pieces - any time I'm making Christmas cards I find SOME way to make more than one, believe me!

I gold heat embossed a wonderful sentiment from ASD's Angels' Bells set
onto a 'cummerbund' of vellum for card #1.
A sprinkling of PF Champagne Glitter Drops couldn't hurt.

Waffle Flower Crafts' Oversized Friend Print die made it a breeze to
include vellum on my sentiment shadow layer.
An old snowflake die - maybe SSS? - looked pretty good cut from vellum but even better with a stroke of Wink of Stella!

Another sentiment from that ASD set stamped in Pigment Craft Co.'s Turmeric ink and my job here is done!

wait!  I have a bonus!
I couldn't let all that gorgeous ink go to waste...
I did a little 'mop up' with a baby wipe then tucked it into a pretty Poinsettia embossing folder with a panel of bristol paper!  A card will follow, promise!

Okay, Mister Cardmaker, I'm on my way over to see if you've unpacked all of your crafty goodies, or just enough to play today!  Either way, I just know you'll knock my Christmas stockings off!  Thanks so much for Playing Cards, my friend!

Thanks too to all of YOU for stopping by today!

Michele, you nailed this challenge with real style! Loving that panel you inked, and wow, such great results!
I’m hoping we can play in person sometime soon, now that I’m back in the mitten!
Thanks so much for asking me to play. I had a blast!!

What great inspiration for using backgrounds. I have a whole box full. They usually end up there when I don't think they are good enough. Brushos are brilliant for this technique - think I might have to have a play. Do you know that was the technique I used on my very first blog post back in 2017? Thanks for the inspiration and reminder xx

Two FABULOUS cards and from ONE panel...LOVE it!! (And here I said I wasn't going to yell anymore...I just can't help myself using caps!!) Seriously though, both of these cards are beautiful and I just love that quilted background stamp you used...it worked perfectly with the emboss resist technique and the colors definitely say Christmas! You and Richard both knocked this challenge out of the park! Hugs. :0)

Intriguing colors, unique background stamp -- all unexpected for Christmas cards, but they're both fun and wonderful!

Two-fers are always great especially when making Christmas cards and you did it with style, Michele. I love how the colors mixed on your panel and the vellum adds a soft touch.

Everything about these cards is perfect... color choices, background stamp, background stamp, and then the finale of the mop up. True artistry.

I like the ink colors you mixed up! These have a funky modern vibe to them that's just fabulous! The baby wipe panel is pretty as is, but I know it gets even better ;)

What a fun challenge for your "Cards with Friends" Michele! I love your ink resists panel, the colors are just beautiful. But even more beautiful is your two cards, love that you got two cards because when making Christmas cards, it's always good to make more than one. They are fun and festive in those colors too! You have me intrigued with the baby wipe embossed panel, I didn't even know that was possible! I've tried the paper towel thing, but never had any success with that. Love this panel and can't wait to see what you do with it! Now off to see Richard's card. Hugs, Brenda
