A day of play with Marcia - foiled again, and again!

My friend Marcia had a big win with a fabulous full-release giveaway recently - it caused us both to take another look at the foiling craze!  Lucky for me, I found a deep discount on the Glimmer Hot Foil machine at Hobby Lobby - then came the learning curve!  We set a date to conquer our fears - I should have known Marcia would have it DOWN by the time she arrived at my door!

Thanks, my sweet generous friend for holding my hand as I got the hang of it, and for bringing all your Pinkfresh goodies to play with!!  Here are the cards I was able to make - and believe me when I say there is a plethora of butterflies still to be used!!

I couldn't wait to get my hands on the gorgeous Pinkfresh Studio Butterflies - you know how I feel about those little wonders, right?  This time, foiled in silver.

I found a beautiful place for this one to land - on the PFS
Miss Your Smile set!  I white heat embossed it on lavender card,
then using just a few of the layers from their coordinating stencil set.  All that to coordinate with the inks I added to this gorgeous Big Butterfly!
inks: Catherine Pooler [CP] Mint to Be, Sweet Sixteen, and Bellini
Pastels are usually not my bag, but I love the ethereal feel of this one!

Next up:  I cut a PFS Braided tag, then sliced it in two, top to bottom,
using one of their curved Classic Edgers... voila, a perfect
place for these Small Butterflies to hang out!  and a sweet
sentiment for a recipient who won't even care if a bit
if my stamping [PFS Lush Greenery sentiments] went askew!
Don't you love them foiled in gold?  and stenciled in my favorite color combo!
CP Rouge, Party Dress, Orange Peel, and Tiki Torch

I backed my tag in a raspberry paper, added a few gold pearls, and POW!

Next card, same mix of colors, placed on the round using PFS Braided Circles dies, and a bit of stenciling on the inner circle says floral to me!
A wonderful sentiment from the Small Butterflies set - it says it all!
We were sad to say goodbye to our last little friend this week!  Our numbers
were down this year - only 125!

Then, I had just one little pink and orange butterfly left - found the perfect spot for
her among a few Lawn Fawn leaves cut from such pretty paper
[Woodblock Prints PTI], she was fooled into thinking they were flowers!

Pigment Craft Co.'s Hello Autumn  MFT Wonky Stitched Rectangles

One Last butterfly - I started this lengthy post with a BIG butterfly,
so I'll end with another:

This time I went a bit more dramatic with my color palette:
CP Sangria, Orange Twist, Tutti Frutti, and Limoncello
A stenciled sunflower for her to rest upon.
The foiling is gold, but the Sweet  part is foiled in copper!
This was my successful first go at foiling onto a cut panel [W&W] - so easy!
A little tape is all you need to remember - thanks Yana!

That was a long one, I know.  Thanks, so very much, if you made it through!!

Thanks again, Marcia - it was a blast foiling with you!  Can't wait for our longer play-days, and to see your cards! xo

  1. These are super-stunning, my crafty pal! I am a real sucker for butterflies and these have my heart. I have not jumped on the foiling wagon myself - I keep thinking "another appliance?!". And "fancy" and "elegant" are not really my style. But these gems of your have inspired me to reconsider....maybe a Black Friday sale? We'll see. For now I will just admire your fancywork! Thanks!

  2. What a fun and creative session with Marcia x.
WOW to the beautiful butterfly and the pretty lavender card and they sure are little wonders x.
Michele the second one is absolutely beautiful with glorious, colourful and happy butterflies and a great design too x.
Fabulous colour combination, great floral stencilling and the cutest of third card x.
All finished off with a wonderful Autumnal card and I am so glad the pretty butterfly loves her flowers...oops loves her leaves x.
Ok you are spoiling me now....Scrolled down and was blown away with the last dramatic card....Loving that oversized butterfly and yes one happy butterfly sitting/resting on the pretty flower x.
Stunners of cards Michele and a real treat of a post....Well done on mastering foiling with the help of Marcia x.

  4. I thought I was coming for a short visit but couldn't stop oohing and aahing through this amazingly gorgeous post. The first one captured my pastel loving heart...ethereal is the right word for the delicacy of this one. But, since high color daunts me, the surprise and beauty of all that vibrant orange and pink filled me with energy and delight.
How brave of you to take on the foiling technique. My unused machine and foil continues to sit and glare at me on a daily basis. You've inspired me to "gut up" and get busy. The machine will be so grateful to be used.
Sorry to here your butterfly count was lower this year. Fingers crossed that next year will be better.

  5. Oh. My. Gosh. Michele!! You have blown me out of the water with ALL these GORGEOUS cards!! I knew from your color combinations last week when we were together that you would come up with STUNNING cards, but I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor girlfriend!! I can't even pick a favorite! The first card with pastels (which normally isn't my favorite either!) is absolutely FABULOUS!! I love how you did the stenciled flowers on purple card and how your butterfly blends in so beautifully! Your 2nd card is frame worthy (well they all are really!)...just absolutely awesome and delightful! I love, LOVE them all Michele! So glad we were finally able to get together and play again...it was waaaaay too long! I treasure our time together and our friendship...what a blessing you are to me! Hugs. :0)

  10. Wow! I see that I need to get some butterflies colored! I have a bunch foiled. Now I need to finish them and I see the large butterflies are going to need to fly over this way! What a wonderful collection of foiled butterflies! Wish I could have joined you!

  11. WOWEE!!! I couldn't wait to see these but the wait was worth it! All beautifully done, Michele. The first two are my favorites, but they're all amazing. Only 175 this year, that's still a lot. Shawn just told me this evening he saw a monarch when he was mowing this afternoon. I told him, maybe it was one of Tom and Michele's!

  12. Fabulous cards! Like some of the others, it's hard for me to choose a favorite, but I simply love the CP colors you chose for the middle cards! And those butterflies . . . I've been on the fence about foiling but have put a Glimmer machine on my Christmas list. Then I'll be looking for helpful friends as well.

  16. Thud. I am beyond blown away by your cards. Oh. My. Gosh! These are amazing my friend. The colors, the card designs, the butterflies. Gorgeous! So in AWE of your talent. Congratulations on your new toy. So excited for you!! Guess what? I just picked up the machine for a deep discount at my Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago! My paltry attempts with it do not look even close to yours. I need to play more. And save up my pennies for some of these butterflies. Thank you so much for sharing! Picking my jaw up off the floor now...;)

  17. WOW! What a wonderful play date this was! And the results are spectacular! I have yet to dive into the foiling craze myself...trying to down size a bit actually but I do love that way it looks and Rich just asked me if there was any crafty gizmo on my Christmas Wish List? Maybe it's time to take the plunge! These are so wonderful Michele! Have a great week!

  18. I'm so jealous. Not only that you had a play date with Marcia but that you bought a glimmer plate and got to do all that fabulous foiling. The colors are magnificent on all those glorious butterflies, Michele, and the card designs are stunning.

  19. Wow, wow, wow!!!! These cards are all so stunning with the foiling Michele. Mind you, they would be beautiful without the foiling, but the foiling just takes them up a whole notch! Your first card should be framed, heck all of them could be framed, but these soft translucent looking colors are just gorgeous-the stamps, the dies, all just gorgeous! Loving the colors in the other ones too, bright, yet sunny just like fall! The stamps, the butterflies, oh my! I am so loving everyone of these! Not sure how you get the foil on like that, but it is really cool my friend! Hugs, Brenda

  28. This post is filled with such overwhelming gorgeousness. I purchased the Glimmer machine in the summer, and I really haven't used it much yet. I LOVE the affect that foiling gives, but I am still getting lots of foil where I don't want it. Each of your cards here are more beautiful than the next. The designs are wonderful and the colors are so striking. I love every one of them. And now my shopping cart runneth over.
