From the Kitchen to the Craftroom!

Oh, I love sunshine just as much as the next gal but once in a while it's nice to have a rainy day that makes you want to stay indoors and get your craft on!

I spent a bit of time over my morning coffee watching Gina K. use one of my favorite 'kitchen supplies' in her studio.  You can watch it HERE.  It features waxed paper and an iron!  SO much fun!  In fact, go watch it now... I'll be here when you get back!

After dusting off my iron, I created my first panel using a bright yellow ink to blend, then used that panel to die cut that Happy Dancing bird again for Color Hues #135!

Next, I took a second waxed panel and blended color through a stencil...

I couldn't help but use a sunflower as Gina had...

TCW Mini Joyful Sunflower using residual blue ink to color around the image.

I was blown away when she brought out the 'big guns' and used a 3d embossing folder next!  I had two from Altenew that I THOUGHT had coordinating coloring stencils.  Turns out only one of them did - it's that much-loved Ballerina Magnolia that deserves to be in the spotlight more often than I do.

I hope you're catching sight of the subtle texture/pattern that the
crumpled waxed paper gives!

Okay.  Last card panel - I used Altenew's 3D Hello Beautiful embossing
folder - turns out it doesn't work with the stencils as the images are not the
same size.  Oh well... with a few itsy-bitsy detail blending brushes from Waffle Flower Crafts, I was able to add color... it might be my favorite!

Thanks, Gina K. for the rainy-day inspiration to play! and thank YOU for
stopping by - I'd love to know if you try this technique!

  4. Wow! You bet I'm seeing the crinkle texture effect from that fun technique! I can't help but say I especially love the bird because, well, it's a bird... and such a happy guy! Pretty with the eyelet background and the string for him to dance on. I'm also really loving your magnificent magnolia. All your cards are gorgeous!

  7. Sooo much inspiration here Michele, the effect is incredible... but alas I think there is too much dust on my iron (wink)
Now I have to go watch Gina, she is a superstar with her teaching and techniques!

  8. They're all amazing and so fun -- love the texture! I'll have to go peek because I have NO idea how you did this, Michele. If only my Laundry Room wasn't a door away from the Craft Room - ha!

  9. Yep, I definitely see the crinkle texture on all the cards Michele, and I can't even pick a favorite as they're all FABULOUS!! Although that birdie in the first card really does make me do a happy dance and as he's sporting our challenge colors, he may be a bit higher than the others! Lovely, lovely cards and thanks so much for sharing with us at the Color Hues Challenge! And glad you found a fun way to spend a rainy day!! Hugs. :0)

  10. What fun to have a day to play with a "new" technique and try so many different ways to use it---and, of course, to end up with four wonderful cards! Two of my faves are here -- that Happy Bird and the Ballerina Magnolia which I haven't pulled out in so long. Thanks for sharing the Happy Bird with us at Color Hues!

  11. I read the second one first and so my comments are backwards. I did watch that GInaK live and wanted to do the technique but thought I needed a stencil. You proved me wrong. It works great for backgrounds and embossing and whatever you can dream up. Wonderful cards, Michele. I've been in a slump so I'm getting out my iron today.

  15. Michele, you would make Gina K proud, to see that you used her technique in all the ways she'd shown! It does create a wonderful textured look...I wonder if I can find my iron in the linen closet??? Anyway, all are gorgeous cards. I do love the dancing bird as she dances while balanced on some pretty lacey twine, and the sentiment is fun too! Thanks for playing along with us at Color Hues!

  16. When I do watch videos I generally turn to Gina as she never disappoints. Your rainy day activity was a huge success. Each card is as beautiful as the one before. The one you made for Color Hues has my favorite bird on it. He certainly makes me smile. Once I get back from Vacation I am going to check out this video for sure. Thanks for all the inspiration and for being with us at Color Hues. Hope the sun is shining today!

  17. Ooooh, I wish I could see these up close--doesn't enlarge well on my Mac. The texture is amazing! I remember working with wax paper years ago from JM, and may have to invest in a small craft iron as I ruined the last one. = {
