I was just blown away by the mood board/inspiration piece at Just us Girls #780 this week - take a look and you will be, too...
Vicki doesn't remember where she found this image, sadly. But having recently remembered
those brave souls lost on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day this image
beautifully represented that to me. Seems like the perfect time to search my stash for Poppies and I found a few that weren't that worked a treat. I made two cards, but we'll see which one lands in their gallery.
First, I should explain that neither of the dies I've used today are actually poppies... but could so easily represent them IMHO... take these SB Anemones for instance...
When using Pimento card from Concord & 9th they sure look like Poppies to me!
Such fussy layers were cut twice - the aforementioned Pimento, and again from their Pistachio card stock.
Do you see sky and sand? Each was cut using one of SB's Four Petal Labels then
cut in half-ish - I used a cover die from Hero Arts to ripple the sand a bit.
I wanted to represent those waves in the photo - this old Lil' Inker die that was sent to me by a friend in Bermuda years ago fit the bill! One of the many Betterpress-ed sentiments from my stash and my card was complete.
Sadly, this sympathy card will hit the mailbox today for someone who has lost her mum. I know that pain and after 30 years it still hurts my heart.
Another non-poppy die is the star of card 2:
Altenew's Sulfur Cosmos... and their Wave Panel die that HAD to live with me but has seldom been used.
Even the leaves seemed 'poppy-ish' to me - do you agree? The layers were cut using Papaya card from The Stamp Market then 'kissed' with CP Tutti Frutti ink, the center from black and another Pistachio leaf.
This cornflower blue [also from TSM] seems more like the one in the inspiration.
It was easy to bring the beach sand using kraft cardstock cut with that old
MFT Wonky Rectangle. Sentiment from PTI's Ways to Say: With Sympathy.
Let me get this published then I'll decide which will be added to the JUGS gallery. Until then I hope you're looking forward to something fun and crafty this weekend - thanks for spending some of your precious time with me this week!

Both of these flowers can pass for poppies, Michele! I love how you've reproduced the beach scene with each card with sand and waves! Great job on this, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI see poppies in both of those pretty floral die cuts, Michele! I like the cardstock colors you used as well. Two marvelous makes. So happy to spot one in our JUGs gallery!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers certainly could pass for poppies! Both cards are representing beautifully, Michele. The suggestion of waves and sand brought about some lovely designs. I'm sorry for your friend's loss. When my mom died I felt set adrift.
ReplyDeleteI love these, especially the second one. Those colours look so good with the kraft card xx
ReplyDeletePoppies or not both cards strongly suggest the colors and images of the inspo photo. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYou are so good! Love the use of “non poppies” - they both worked perfectly! q
ReplyDelete2 very awesome inspired cards! Thanks for being a loyal player at JUGS!
Your Anemones and Cosmos both look like Poppies to me Michele and I'm loving the way you added the beach, waves and sky on each card! You interpreted that inspiration photo perfectly! I'm so sorry you had to use one of your cards already...my mom at 93 drives me nuts sometimes, but at the same time I can't imagine life without her! Hang tight to your memories of your mom and I always love hearing stories about your mom and your growing up years. Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteBoth of your cards are beautiful and great takes on the inspiration board. I do love the second card best. The blue background is perfect with that lovely red bloom.
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely a poppy style flower and both cards are inspirational, LOVE them Michele!
ReplyDeleteYour creativity and ingenuity shines in this post, Michele. Wow!
ReplyDeletePoppy or not, your colors are outstanding and eye-catching! Love the dies you used!!!
ReplyDeleteBoth of your beautiful cards are easy to see how they interpret the inspiration photo, and a great way to showcase flowers that are very close to the poppies! Both are so gorgeous, plus it's easy to see why you're still contemplating the entry card
ReplyDeleteMichele... without going back to look, I knew you would chose the second card for the challenge. But I love both of them for very different reasons. You are so clever how you extend the use of your dies... such great great tip for those of us learning from you! Thankful as always that you are in the JUGS gallery!
ReplyDeletePoppies schmoppies. You nailed all the poppy feels on both cards! The first card blew me away at your representation of the scene. This just HAS to be a winner!
ReplyDeleteThose Poppy impostors are both a beautiful way to include one on your card, Michele, and yes the Cosmos leaves do look like they belong to a Poppy. Using sand cardstock for the backgrounds with a touch of sea blue brought the inspiration photo to life in your cards. Thanks for sharing one of them with us at Just Us Girls.
ReplyDeleteBoth flowers can definitely pass for poppies. I never would have known. I love how you interpreted the sketches. The clouds, the sky, both cards are simply amazing!
