Hello, sweet peeps! I have such a wonderful guest for Playing Cards with Friends this month. They are ALL wonderful, right? This particular friend lives on the other side of the Earth and equator from me in New Zealand!
Shona Chambers of Twine Around and I started blogging around the same time and I immediately recognized her fabulous grasp of CAS design! So did our card making community! Soon, we were playing cards in the same challenges, AND THEN she fell in love with Monarch butterflies - need I say more? Please say hello to Shona - she's been taking a little time off from cardmaking, so I was especially delighted when she accepted my invitation to Play!
There's one more thing we have in common: we both LOVE scary movies! Yes, we do! So of course, we had to have Halloween in the mix! Here is our assignment:
- Make a Halloween card - scary as you'd like, but funny is good too!
- Must use a die
- Must-have colors: black, green, purple, and orange + one color of your choice.
- Here's the TRICK: NO pumpkins!
There's no way I'm going to get this card delivered to New Zealand in time for Halloween in fact I'd better get her Christmas card in the mail!
This one's just for you, my friend!! See if you can guess the movie...
Inside sentiment:
R.I.P. = Recover in Peace my friend
I dug deep in my stash for lots of fun Halloween treats from a
12 Kits of Occasions kit: the house die-cut which I backed with my color choice of yellow, and ribbon that compliments the lettering stamped with an ages old Mama Elephant set that I dug up called Sketchy Letters.
I got a little bit tricky for the headstone in my cemetery and used one of my
Slimline Altenew Label dies - cut in two!
What I cannot seem to do is to capture the glow-in-the-dark elements: the little ghost and bones X so you'll have to take my word for that. Just in case you can't tell, my embossed panel checks the purple box of those necessary colors.
Okay! Let's all go to Shona's post to see if she captured a scary movie - based on her Instagram feed this week, I think we're in for a few tricks!!
Thanks so very much for Playing Cards, Shona! It was such fun trying to portray one of my favorite scary movies: PET CEMETERY!! Stephen King does scary so well!
=] Michele
Well I would have to say Wickedly Fun!! This is such a great card!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, glad you clarified 'recovered in peace' lol. What a fun design and a fabulous friend to play with, LOVE Shona and her amazing designs too!
ReplyDeleteYou dug deep into your bag of magic tricks and pulled out a real treat for us! That ghost is a hoot, love his eyes! This is oodles of fun, my friend!
ReplyDeleteMost excellent! Although I was struggling to figure the movie, I must admit. I saw Pet Cemetery and read the book oh so many years ago-one time (before I swore off Stephen King for good) LOL I am glad you got to play with such a special friend. Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteI can tell that you had as much fun making this card as watching the movie, Michele! What fun details and use of these colors! Hocus Pocus is about my limit of scariness, LOL. Stephen King is too scary for me!
ReplyDeleteHow fun is this, although I never would have guessed the movie!! Glad you found someone who shares your love of scary, cause real life is scary enough for me! I think Casper is more my speed! Haha!! But anyway, your card is great and I really do like how you turned a half of a label die into a tombstone...smart thinking!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteToo cute...and a wee bit scary! But fun, nonetheless! That tombstone is oh so clever, too! I'm with Bonnie....Hocus Pocus is about my level of scariness too!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! I love it! The colors are great as are the dies and all the bits and pieces. Brilliant way to make a headstone. I like your inside sentiment, too. That ghost makes me start laughing all over again. Very fun!
ReplyDeleteYou can keep your scary movies, Michele. I still think of Psycho sometimes when I'm in the shower. But scary cards are always fun and I love how you represented the movie in yours.
ReplyDeleteOh so funnnnnn! Right down to that genius tombstone!
ReplyDeleteHi Michele, why am I not surprised that you love scary movies?!! lol Me...not so much! But I did see Pet Cemetery, Dwayne and I were dating when the second Pet Cemetery came out in 1992, never saw the original one. Your card is so fun! I love the colors and that haunted house/w the witch. The embossed panel is perfect and I love how clever you got with the tombstone! And yes, I can definitely tell your ghost and bones are glow in the dark. How fun is that?!!! Thanks for welcoming me back my sweet friend! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow backing, second card i have seen today with yellow as the shadow. Its fabulous. wonderful scene, Michele. Off to see Shona's.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love it! I'm not a movie person but that house and trail to the cemetery is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteYou have shown great ingenuity on this card and managed to include so much detail. A really great card xx
ReplyDeleteSo many clever touches to this card! And how fun to play cards with another Kiwi :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun Halloween card with the layers and dimension, and the glow-in-the-dark element, Michele! Using orange color without pumpkins is a great challenge, and using a label die for the tombstone is clever. I've seen a few of Steven King's horrors (Carrie, the Shining, Misery, etc.) , but never seen Pet Sematary. I'd like to see it!
ReplyDeleteHideko xx
This is a fang-tastic cards with friends. I love all the detail in this one, especially that little ghost with those eyes, and there's that Altenew label die again - perfect shape for a fancy headstone. I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteWho needs pumpkins anyway?!?! This is wickedly wonderful!
