It has been years since I've quilted. When I did quilt, it was all done the old-fashioned way - fabrics were cut by hand, pieced by hand, and quilted entirely by hand. I will be the first to say the modern quilt might be much more durable, and thoroughly gorgeous!
Today, I piece with paper - but that machine of mine is still not behaving!! so today's quilting is done with a die!! and I've been inspired by the pattern in our photo.
[My friend Bobby may have the proper name
of my tattered quilt blocks!]
If you've never quilted before, I do hope you'll be
Inspired By #61 to give it a go!

I've got two hand cut, pieced, sewn quilts that Grandma Lynn from Tennessee made. They are precious, and will go to my son's daughters when they're old enough to care for them. I never had the patience to sew like that. This might just be the way to go, however! Your card is absolutely adorable. Such sweet papers, and what a perfect sentiment for your 'feel better' card. Definitely a day-brightener! xo Bev
ReplyDeleteOh what a darling card and it soooooo looks like a lovely warm quilt.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous 'quilted' result Michele, I adore your choice of colours and patterns!
ReplyDeleteOh man!! I LOVE this. Did you distress the edges to get that puckered look? The papers you chose are perfection!!! Looks like fabric. But the thing I think is the most fun? The needle!! Is that a die?
ReplyDeleteThis looks all warm and snuggly cozy! That needle is the perfect touch. What a delightful card Michele!
ReplyDeleteLove your literal take on the inspiration photo, Michele! Complete with clever sentiment and a needle and thread...awesome quilting, my friend!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is amazing Michele! Love the mix of patterned papers ... and the vellum "ouch" made me smile. :) xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt work, Michele. I am SO sorry your machine is still giving you fits. Could it be a defective machine? I hope you get enjoyment from it soon and not frustration. Your hand stitched quilts sound divine! :) And your paper stitched quilt is just warm and cozy like a hug. Thank you so much for sharing! Happy weekend to you!
ReplyDeleteMichele - I'm glad your machine was not "cooperating" just for this project because the die-stitching result is so wonderful! Awesomeness!
ReplyDeleteYour 'rag' quilt is adorable, Michele, and that needle is the perfect accent. I need one of those but can't find that stamp set on MFT. I just did a quilt card but I'm ready to do another one with the die you gave me.
ReplyDeletewow Michele what a wonderful card. Such brilliant design from that inspiration photo. And the perfect sentiment 'ouch' you rocked this card.
ReplyDeleteFresh and clean and simply sweet!! I can almost feel the softness of this "quilt" and the sharpness of the needle! Beautifully done!
ReplyDeleteWow, your quilt looks like real one, Michele! Love the mix of the pretty patterns. I would believe it if I was told it was made of cloth. And I thought the shiny needle was real when I saw the picture for the first time. Sewing the sentiment strip is a really nice touch!
ReplyDeleteHideko xx
Sweet! Love the dimension of this quilt, the vellum sentiment and needle! Sweet and fun!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! While I've quilted (mostly basic), I do own the precious last quilt my grandmother ever made before passing away -- it isn't finished, just the hand-cut, pieced together, hand-stitched top, and I LOVE IT that way! I have one other completed one that she made me for my graduation, so both are pure treasures!
