"Playing Cards" is what I fondly call this fabulous craft we all love, and this play-date allows me to make new friends, and get to craft with them - albeit virtually, it's still a blast!
Barb and I fell in love with Joyce Mehrberg's fabulous CASology DT card here:
We discovered that, while neither had Joyce's butterfly, we both had the wonderful Flora and Fauna 2 set from Wplus9... Yay!
Are you ready Barb? Here it is:
So! I was inspired by the colors - Tombow Dual Brush Pens for me - though they were a bit different in tone, they worked a charm. I left a bit more white [I may just give them a twinkle of Stickles after our play-date] and did a few free-handed dots. Of course this whole partial coloring thing is wonderfully highlighted by Joyce's raised panel, so I used a Pierced Circle from MFT for mine - and raised the stakes with a second circle for the bitty baby butterfly. A sentimental blessing from Wplus9's Spring Post does the trick, I think.
I loved this technique, and actually forgot I'd done something similar, but long ago with this card:
Barb thank you so much for playing cards with me ... so much fun chatting away with you by telephone, too!
Joyce, I hope you're smiling that we've CASE'd your beautiful card!!! It was just too, too fun... I can't wait another second to see what Barb has done, can you?
Ready. Set. Let's go ...

ReplyDeleteEek. What a fun surprise. See what happens when I get behind on my blog reader? I absolutely love your card--those butterflies looke like they are about to fly right off the card. What an honor that you and Barb have CAS'ed me. Thank you so much. You could knock me over with a feather. What a fun card came you have invented--and I like your version more than my own. When my life calms down a little bit I want to play cards with you too!

ReplyDeleteOOooo!!! Beautiful, Michele! I LOVE it! And I loved the happy note you left on my blog! It was so nice hearing from you and yes, you've been drivin' right by me! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner,...just after posting those MFT cards, I brought home a load of marching band pants that have to be hemmed (the goal is to be done TOMORROW...YIKES!) and also purchased a new puppy! Lord...what were we thinking, giving in to the kids like that! My schedule has been turned upside down...just when I thought I would be able to carve out some more regular crafting time!!!:( Oh well,...I'm not givin' up on it just yet! I'm following you to try to keep up with you a little better...but with band and puppy season in...I can't make promises LOL Thanks again for your note! LOVING your recent creations!!!
ReplyDeleteHow fun you and Barb got together. Love your butterflies and that second circle...just a fab touch.
ReplyDeleteI love Joyce's card that inspired you and Bard to make such wonderful CASEs, Michele. Your bright orange butterflies really pop when spotlight colored.
ReplyDeleteWOW, your butterflies look absolutely stunning, Michele!!! Love the beautiful colours you've worked with and I love that you have left parts of the wings white!!! What a great CASE of Joyce's lovely card!!!! Really beautiful!!!

Such a fun idea and your card is super gorgeous!! I can see why you wanted to CASE Joyce's card, its a beauty. So nice for the two of you to get together like this and I'm off to see what Barb has done!!
ReplyDeleteTwo fabulous artists playing cards together, Michele ... could it get much better?? Your take on Joyce's lovely card is gorgeous ... vibrant juicy colours against all that lovely white ... and that double spotlighting with the wee butterfly ... simply genius! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeletegreat cards....all so pretty and summery feeling...
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun game, Michele! I think you need to make this into a regular feature. :) Love your take on Joyce's card especially how you layered the die cut circles. So cool!
ReplyDeleteWow, what fun! Joyce's card is gorgeous and both CASEs are equally stunning! Great idea to do partial coloring and your oranges are so wonderful. Super cards by all!
ReplyDeleteJoyce's card is fabulous and one I could easily COPY (forget the case; when something is this eye-catching, copying just makes sense!) because I have those lovely butterflies. Perhaps I'll do exactly that...something to rev up my creative engine that's sputtering and spitting of late! Your case: gorgeous! I didn't know you used Tombows! I ordered some from their recent sale (like I 'needed' Tombows..yeesh!). Do tell: do you love them? How do you use them (please don't say water-colouring!)? Just like markers? If so, then I'm going to be skipping with joy at my impulse purchase! Let me know when you have a chance!
