CAS[E] this Sketch #250

Can you believe we are at Week 250?  Another fabulous Sketch comes to us from Leigh Penner this week ... I think you are going to love it as much as we do.

CTS #250 screams for a little water coloring, right?   And florals?  yes, please.  I've decided to use Leigh's Sketch to do a little experimental painting with Distress Oxide inks.  However, in place of florals, my 'subject' is a simple, gorgeous pine bough stamp set ... here it is three ways:

Attempt A:  stamped in Versafine gray/clear embossed, using a less-watered-down version of Distress Oxides, and an attempt at a loose water colored background, stamping into the very wet ghost-stamping, onto a wet paper, using  a smaller pine bough from the set:

my in-house critic thought the top ghost stamping looked like a creepy hand -
decided he was right...

Attempt B:  black/clear embossed stamping, with a more spattered background:

Finally, the card you came by for:  more CAS, clear embossed stamping... which gives more of a Princess Pine style needle. Because it's Christmas, a little gold wash on the cones, and a very subtle background wash:

Which do you prefer?  I'm pretty sure we'll love any subject, or floral you choose for your card!

Now, let's go see Leigh's card, shall we?  I'm sure my entire team will have treats in store... at CAS[E] this Sketch!

I'll be sharing this CAS card with Loll and Bonnie at CAS Watercolor December Challenge: Anything Goes!

  2. LOL....I see the creepy hand but I doubt I would have noticed it myself!! I like the blue background on the second one, but really, I like them all! Pretty branches and I love the open sentiment!

  3. Why yes I do see a little hand--have you got an elf on the shelf?? I love them all but my CAS heart loves the last one the mostest!

  4. Ha, a creepy little hand!! Isn't it great having your own in-house critic...well maybe not LOL!! No offense Tom, but I have one at my house too...an in house critic that is, not a creep little hand!! They're all fabulous Michele. I would be hard pressed to pick one. But I am partial to that delicate pine on the last one!

  5. Fabulous collection/variation of cards, Michele! I was enjoying your ghost stamping until I read the "creepy hand" comment. Now I can't help seeing it as a hand! ;-P Joking aside, the gold wash on the cones and the subtle background wash must look beautiful in real life. I'm so happy to see your card in the CAS Watercolour gallery! Hideko :-)

  7. I didn't see the creepy hand until you mentioned it, and then I did and giggles. My daughter popped over and saw that card and said it was cute, so she didn't see it either. I like all the versions, but if I was pressed to pick a favorite, I think the third one is beautiful with it's clean lines and pretty colors!

  8. They are all beautiful but since I'm a fan of golden yellow, I actually like the creepy hand one the best - lol!

  9. I love all your experimenting, Michele. That's what makes it fun. I like each one for different reasons but if I had to choose, I think the middle one is my favorite. Something about the blue sky and the sun shining through the branches speaks to me.

  10. Great idea to add these beauties to Loll and Bonnie's challenge :) Well, I love everything you create, but I must admit my fave is the CAS-est of all...the last card! The crisp, clean images are so pretty and your gold sentiment is sheer perfection! You sure know how to inspire us, my friend!!!
